Meet CentBase: Envelope Budgeting

note

The wiki is currently under construction, pages are being written and may change as we finish them. Thanks for your patience.

TL;DR

CentBase is an envelope budgeting app for Android. You divide your income into envelopes and give every cent a job before you spend it. Leftover money rolls into next month, and everything is stored on your device.

The simple idea behind CentBase

We all know the feeling: payday arrives, the money's there, and a few weeks later you're wondering where it all went. CentBase fixes that with one time-tested idea, every cent of income must be assigned to an envelope.

Instead of watching one big account balance, you split your money into envelopes for the things that matter: Groceries, Rent, Savings, Fun Money, and anything else. Then you decide, dollar by dollar, what your money is for, before you spend it. When you know where your money's going, it's much harder to "run out" by surprise.

What you can do with CentBase

  • Budget in envelopes. Create envelopes for everything you spend on, give them a plan for the month, and watch your leftover "ready to assign" money shrink as you put every cent to work. See Home for the month-by-month view.
  • Get organised with sub-envelopes. Keep things tidy by nesting budgets within budgets, a single "Transport" envelope, for example, can hold sub-envelopes for Fuel, Public Transit, and Maintenance.
  • See your Ready-to-Assign balance. Know exactly how much of your income hasn't been given a job yet, so you never accidentally plan to spend money you've already committed elsewhere.
  • Let balances roll over. Leftover money in an envelope, or unassigned income, carries into next month automatically, so nothing gets lost and each month builds on the last.
  • Run multiple budgets. Keep a personal budget and a shared household budget, or budgets in different currencies, fully separate in one app.
  • Track your real accounts. Connect your actual checking, savings, and credit-card accounts, log your spending against your envelopes, and see what you've really spent, not just what you planned.
  • Record fees separately. Add a linked fee expense to any transaction so a bank or service charge is tracked in its own envelope without hiding the original amount.
  • Search and save views. Filter by status, type, envelope, account, date, tags and amount, then save the filter for one-tap reuse.
  • See the future. Check Monthly expense forecast and Net worth, your spending forecast and stacked assets vs liabilities.
  • Move data in and out. Import a CSV, restore a .centbase backup, or export this budget.
  • Start fast with templates. Save a transaction you make often as a reusable template, and fill the whole form in one tap.
  • Stay consistent. Set monthly targets, schedule recurring transactions, get reminders so your budgeting habit actually sticks, and let future-dated transactions turn into schedules that post on the right day.
  • Tune preferences and settings. Pick your light or dark look, first day of week, and how each account and envelope behaves, carry-over, exclusions, targets, and the little badges that flag what's going on.
  • Turn notifications into transactions with Smart Capture. Let CentBase read payment alerts from your banking apps and turn them into ready-to-review suggestions.
  • Track who you pay with payees. CentBase remembers the people and businesses you transact with, so you can see spending patterns by payee.
  • Set up credit card management. Get automatic due-date alerts and credit limit warnings for your cards.
  • Check the notifications hub. All your reminders, alerts, and Smart Capture suggestions in one place.

CentBase is built Android-first, and your money data stays yours. Money is stored as integer cents, so every cent adds up without rounding surprises.

Sample use cases

  • First payday of the month. Log your paycheck, then fill your Groceries and Rent envelopes until Ready-To-Assign hits zero.
  • A household with two budgets. Keep a personal budget and a shared budget side by side, each with its own currency.
  • Bills on autopilot. Set rent as a scheduled transaction so it posts itself, and a reminder arrives before the money leaves.
