Envelope details

When you tap an envelope, you get more than just the name and balance. The envelope details page shows that envelope's transactions, charts, and history so you can see exactly how the money is flowing.

TL;DR

Tap any envelope on the Envelopes tab to open its details page. From there you can see this envelope's transactions, its spending pace chart (how your spending compares to the ideal burn rate), its spending outlook (daily trend and projection), and its allocation history. Swipe between the charts to find the view you need.

Getting to envelope details

There are two ways to open an envelope's details:

  • Swipe right on any envelope or subenvelope row on the Envelopes tab
  • Tap an envelope from a filtered list (for example, the underfunded or over-budget lists in Budget Health Summary)

If the envelope has subenvelopes, the details page shows the combined total for the parent and all its children.

The details page

The page opens with the envelope name, icon, and current amounts at the top. Below that, you will find a swipeable set of chart pages and a transaction list.

Spending Pace chart

The spending pace chart answers one question: at this rate, does my money last the month?

The chart plots several lines:

  • Available (gray dashed line at the top) is your spending ceiling: last month's leftover plus this month's allocation
  • Ideal pace (neutral dashed line) shows what a perfectly even burn would look like across the month
  • Cumulative spending (status-colored line with a ring dot at today) is your running total of expenses since the 1st — green when on track, amber near your pace limit, and red when ahead of pace
  • Projection (dotted line) extends from today to month-end based on your current spending trend
  • Last month pace (slate dashed line) shows last month's actual curve as a reference

In the top right corner, a chip tells you the bottom line:

  • "{amount} left on {date}" (green) when the projection lands under your available amount
  • "Over by {amount} on {date}" (amber) when the projection goes over
  • "Projection from day 7" during the first week, before there is enough data for a reliable forecast

If the envelope has no spending yet or is an income envelope, this chart may not appear.

Spending Outlook chart

The spending outlook shows your daily spending trend and where it is headed. It plots:

  • Your daily net flow (money in minus money out each day)
  • A trend line showing the average direction
  • A projection to month-end
  • A week-versus-typical delta pill that shows whether this week is above or below your usual pattern

This chart is useful for spotting patterns, like a spike at the start of the month or a gradual climb.

Monthly forecast

Below the outlook chart you may see a 3-month forecast. This shows projected spending for the next three months based on your recent history and any scheduled transactions.

Transaction list

Below the charts, you will find every transaction assigned to this envelope, sorted by date. Each row shows the name, amount, date, and status badge. Tap any transaction to open its full details.

Allocation history

From the envelope details you can also open the Allocation history. This shows every time money was added to or removed from this envelope's allocation, with the old amount, the new amount, and the date. It is an append-only log, so you always see the full record of how the allocation changed.

Sample use cases

  • Will my Groceries envelope last the month? Open the envelope details and look at the Spending Pace chart. If the cumulative spending line turns amber or red above the dashed ideal line, you are spending faster than planned. The chip in the corner tells you whether you are on track or running over.

  • What did I spend on Transport last week? Open Transport details and scroll the transaction list. Each row shows the amount and date so you can spot the spike.

  • How much did I allocate to Savings over time? Open Savings details and tap Allocation history. You will see every fill and transfer, with dates and amounts.
